Tanner R.I.P.

Earlier this week I had to put my little buddy Tanner of 15 years down.   It was one of the harder things I have had to do in my life.  He had a host of issues and his health was declining rapidly in the last few weeks.  He had diabetes and was on insulin shots twice per day.  He was totally blind partially due to his cataracts that he has had for a couple of years and partially due to his diabetes.  His mobility had been declining for sometime and lately he was having difficulty just walking or even standing.  We bought him a wagon a few weeks ago so when he got tired we would load him up in the wagon for the rest of the walk.  He loved the wagon.  He hadn't been able to climb stairs in many months but we carried him up and down the stairs so that wasn't a big issue.  Every day he seemed more and more frustrated due to his inability to see where he was going and his difficulty just moving around so we decided it was time to do for him what we would have wanted done for us if we were in his situation.  I took him last Monday and was with him at the Young Animal Hospital in Titusville, FL. when he was given an injection to end his life.   He is being cremated and I will make a box for his ashes when we get home.  I know some people think this may be weird to have an animal cremated  but we have done this for all of the dogs we have had except one.  The one exception was a holy terror devil possessed cocker spaniel named Jazzy and she bit everyone in the house but me and wasn't very old when she was put down.  When Janet and I pass we have asked our sons in a document attached to our Will to mix the  dogs ashes with ours and spread them over four different sites. If your not an animal lover you won't get this but if you are you can probably connect.

Here are some pictures of Tanner.

This is what he looked like 15 years ago when we got him.

This is him within the last two years since we have haven't had the motorhome two years yet.  He looked so good here compared to what he looked like earlier this week.  He went down hill fast.

He loved to be lay in his chair around a campfire.  In fact I would have a campfire just for him.

This is the fold up wagon that we bought a few weeks ago for Tanner when he would not be able to walk any longer.

This is an earlier picture of him sticking his head out the car window which he loved to do.  When I took him to have him put down I had his head out the window for the entire trip.
