April 1, 2011 Riding bikes in Charleston, SC

Today we loaded up the bikes and headed into Charleston to spend the day riding around the city.  We parked on Battery St. which is the street the furthest south on the peninsula that makes up Charleston .  This city is shaped similar to the state of Florida with water surrounding most of the city.  We rode around primarily in the historic district at the southern most part of the city and then went up to Market St. and walked through several buildings that make up the city market.  Below are some of the pictures we took today.  Some of these private gardens in small back or side yards of these residences are amazing.

This is the USS Yorktown which is retired and has been on display here in Charleston since 1975.

This is Fort Sumpter the island fort outside Charleston where the civil war began.
