Oyster Cook Off in Gulf Shores

Today we attended the 5th annual Oyster Cook Off in Gulf Shores. The event was held at the main intersection of Gulf Shores at a place called the Hangout. The cook off consisted of 46 different participants primarily from local restaurants as well as a couple of chefs from the Food Channel. When we entered the cook off we bought a book of 20 tickets for $30. Each oyster sample cost one ticket while mixed drinks and premium beers were three tickets. Almost all of the oyster dishes we tried were excellent. They were so good that Hulio loved a couple of them and she doesn't like seafood that much, especially oysters. Most of the oysters were served on the half shell and almost all of them were served with a sauce of some kind. Every time you ordered a drink you also got a fresh oyster to go with it. It was a good time but very warm with temperatures in the mid 80's today. I think we both got a little sunburn. Enjoy the pictures below that were taken with Janet's little camera since we left the big one at the 5'er since we were on the motorcycle.

This is our favorite restaurant in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach so far.  They have won the Oyster Cook off the last two years.  Janet doesn't really like oysters but she loved the ones from The Eat.  What a name for a restaurant "The Eat".  They apparently added the 50 Shades of Pearl for this event since none of their menus or other signs we have seen includes that part.
