Trip to Fort Morgan and Mobile Alabama

Today we went to a Pecan festival in Tillmans Corner, Alabama which is west of Mobile.  The pecan festival was a joke which I told Huli was a possibility after reading about it on the internet.  We still had a good time and got to see a part of the country we had never visited before.  To get to Tillmans Corner we went due west of Gulf Shores on route 180 until we ran out of land and ended up at Fort Morgan where we took a ferry across Pelican Bay to Dauphine Island, Alabama.  The ferry ride took about about 30 minutes but probably saved about an hour and a half in driving time.  After driving to the mainland from Dauphine Island we went west to Bayou La Batre, AL where we stopped for lunch.  Bayou La Batre is a small town of about 2500 hundred people.  It is also described as the fishing capital of Alabama since each day it processes the catch of hundreds of fishing boats.  For lunch I had a combination seafood plate which included crab claws, shrimp and fish.  Janet had something a little different too, chicken livers. Our lunch was very good and I got Janet to try the crab claws.   From Bayou La Batre we went north to Tillmans Corner where we drove in and out of the Pecan festival.  It consisted of a few little kids rides with hardly anyone attending.  We then dove east and went to downtown Mobile before heading back to Foley, Alabama to stop at Camping World and then finally back to Gulf Shores.  The entire trip took about six hours which is the longest we like to leave the dogs.  Below are some pictures of today's trip.  I wasn't able to get any pictures of the pelicans doing their high speed nose dive into the water catching fish.  I tried a couple of times but wasn't able to time the shot correctly.

Some of the houses on our way out to Fort Morgan to catch the ferry.  The peninsula these houses are on is probably only one half mile wide or less in many spots by around 20 miles long.

We saw several oil rigs like this one
