This morning we drove the motor home out to the KOA exit where Huli pulled the truck up behind it where we attached the tow bar to the truck. Everything worked great and we had no problems. It was pretty windy but the motorhome handled well. We got 7.0 miles per gallon which isn't too bad considering the wind and the fact that we are pulling an 8,000 lb. truck. You read on different web sites where people claim the mileage improves after you get several thousand miles on the motorhome but I heard the same thing with my truck and I never noticed an improvement with it and it has 72,000 miles on it. I expected 6 miles per gallon with the motorhome towing the truck so I am pleasantly surprised. I also drove at 67 miles per hour much of the way so I know I could have improved the mileage if I would have slowed down to 60-62 but I'm not willing to do that on a long trip like we had today. We arrived at the park at about 3:30 in the afternoon.
While at Reed Bingham we plan to take several day trips. One trip Huli wants to take is to see where the Honey Boo Boo show is filmed. I am not looking forward to that trip but she goes places with me she is not too interested in so I will make the best of it. There are also some nice towns around here we want to visit. We also plan to do some hiking and biking around the park while we are here. As of now we are planning to stay here until April 2nd but I can tell we will more than likely extend our stay due to how nice our camp site is and how nice the park is. The dogs got a good view of the road. Sydney stayed in the window for the entire trip. Tanner was all over the place today and he was a real pain in the butt. He finally settled down when we were almost to our destination.
This is the rear camera and what you see of the truck while going down the highway. When you turn on the turn signal the picture changes from the rear view to the a side view so you can see what is beside you. I use the rear shot to view the truck but prefer the mirrors to the side views.
The white labels are my doing. I can't read the small print on the switches and am not familiar with the location of them so I temporarily added these labels. At least I think it is temporary.
Notice I am using a Tom Tom gps that came with the motor home and a Garmin gps that we had in the truck. I don't trust either one of them. Our Garmin would do stupid things with routing but a change I recently made was suppose to correct that for good. Today they planned the exact same route and both worked great. I also did a Google map last night and compared that route to the gps. With just the truck I wouldn't do that but pulling the 5th wheel I would especially after the Garmin kept getting us in some unusual situations. So far the Tom Tom has been great but a little different than what I am used to.
PS. the change I made to the Garmin that is suppose to eliminate the erratic routes is to tell it I get 45 miles per gallon highway and 15 miles per gallon city. Many who have done this swear it works. We will see.
This site is a lot larger than our Florida site. We also get to have a camp fire which we couldn't do at the KOA unless you had a metal fire place.
The tree we are parked under is beautiful. We just hope it doesn't lose any limbs over the next few days.
