Feb 12, 2011 Gulf State Park

I am happy to report that Tanner and Sydney are both fine.  Jack and I are fine.  No ill affects from our 7 1/2 mile walk on Thursday.  This area is beautiful and we are having a wonderful time exploring.  The past two days we've been on our bikes most of the day.  Yesterday we rode our walk, from the day before, so we could tell how far we had walked.  We rode to the beach, stopped back at the RV to take the dogs for a short walk and headed out to check out some of the park's fantastic paved trails.

On our way to Gulf Shores Jack's to do list was quite short:  He wanted to see an armadillo up close and personal in their own habitat.  These past few days he has certainly gotten his wish.  I'll let the pictures below tell you that story.  We have seen numerous armadillo's on the trail.   Most are skiddish and run if you get close to them.  One today was too busy burrowing through the dirt with his nose to notice how close Jack was to him.  Jack bent over to touch him and in a heartbeat that armadillo turned towards Jack as if to say, "No, you didn't just touch me!"  But the dirt was more tempting than a throw down with Jack.  So, he buried his nose and we stood for quite awhile just watching him.  He was still rooting around in the dirt when we got back on our bikes and continued on our way.

We plan on being here until February 23rd so we should have plenty of time to scout out the area, finding tons of things to enjoy.  I'm going to call it quits for tonight but I do hope you enjoy the pictures below:

These little four wheelers were all over the beach-evidently still cleaning the beaches.  To us the beaches were beautiful and the sand was the most amazing white sand we have ever seen.

Bubba's Shrimp House's grub was lunch today.  The beer was good but I wouldn't get the fried pickles again.  This is a little more upscale than we prefer but it worked.  We like more locals and less visitors like us.
