Valentines Day - February 14, 2011 Gulf Shores Al

Well we didn't have any specific plans today but wanted to spend the evening on the longest pier on the Gulf of Mexico watching the the sunset on Valentines day 2011.  So after a couple of bagels in the morning we took the dogs for a walk and got on the bikes and headed out.  We rode through the park then down to the gulf and rode the highway into Orange Beach.  Stopped at a souvenir shop and bought a fish to add to the 5th wheel fish collection (pictures below) and bought a couple of new shot glasses along with some other stuff.  Many would think you shouldn't shop while bike riding but I don't worry because I am with the woman on the bike from Tijuana.  Along with the numerous lights front and back she has saddle bags that can carry a week's  worth of groceries.  I'm glad they are on her bike and not mine.  After the souvenir shop we rode down along the beach and then back to stop at the grocery store to pick some things for the evening get together on the pier.  Got back to the campground after 17 miles on the bike which isn't as much as yesterday but everyday it seems to be getting easier to ride.  Well after lunch we got in the truck to take a ride to Foley Al to another grocery store.  Got back to the 5r packed a lunch and wine and headed out to the pier just before sunset.  This is as romantic as it gets for me and as it turns out was really cheap since the $2 fee per person was not collected at the pier.  Well we had a great evening eating sandwiches and drinking wine and talking with a man who was fishing on the pier with his four year old daughter Beka who shared our dinner. Took some pictures but don't think they did the sunset justice.

This is a picture of the coast as we are riding to Orange Beach

This is one of the condo buildings on the beach that we think is cool

Not very good over the shoulder aim.  I think when you get old hair grows out of your ears.  This sucks.

Picture of the trail going back to the campground from the town of Orange Beach.

Now you know why we rarely stray from the paved trail.

Ain't she sexy

I think every store in Alabama sells these Paul Bear Bryant hats.

And she said we would never make it in time for sunset  Now if the guy with the camera could hold still it would be great.

This is a view from the end of the pier looking back.  It's over 1500 ft long

This is next to the one before I scared him away

The new fish hanging in the 5th wheel,  The light is not good so the color doesn't show up.
