Bike Riding in The Villages

My Bike Week disclaimer was supposed to be read first before proceeding to the Bike Week pics. However, it didn't work out that way.  I do apologize if anyone was offended.

Today, Jack and I loaded up the bikes and headed for The Villages. For those of you who have never heard of The Villages I can assure you I've never seen ANY other place  like it.  It is totally a self contained housing development.  And within this development there are numerous smaller villages.  It's like having 10 or so smaller communities, making up one city.  It has 8 golf courses, supermarkets, department stores, a theater, bowling alley, car wash, tons of medical offices, banks, many restaurants and everything else you could possibly ever want or need. I really don't think you'd ever have to use a vehicle (except those pesky little golf carts or here's a thought, bikes!) to go anywhere The homes range from small two bedrooms to huge 5+ bedrooms. It is a beautiful area and we enjoyed our bike ride looking at the homes and landscaping. We had lunch downtown and learned that every Monday and Wednesday they have a small festival around the town square. Vendors sell their wares and some band hits the stage.  Jack said the population is around 18,000. But what we noticed today was the fact that we saw only one other person riding a bike.  Everyone seems to have golf carts and since everything is within their reach most everyone rides golf carts.  If Jack and I rode golf carts instead of our bikes we'd be so fat in a few years we'd flatten the tires on a golf cart in a heartbeat.  Jack snapped a few pics while we were biking.

A few odds and ins before the pics.

It goes without saying that Jack takes much better pictures than I.  I'm too impatient to wait for the shutter to open and shut. Hence, more blurry pictures than not. But that really hasn't been the real problem for my crappy pics.  In the sunlight, when taking a picture,  I could not see a thing on the camera screen.  Nothing.  I just thought that was how the camera worked so 100% of the time I just aimed and snapped.  That is why many of my pictures had people's heads cut off.  Today, Jack forgot his camera and since I do suck at taking pictures I offered mine to him.  Within 10 minutes of using my camera he's like, "There has got to be something wrong with your camera!" "Nope," I say to him, "that's just the was it is!" Happy that he finally was able to see what I had been griping about for so long.   "Let's find some shade so I can look at the settings."  Do I really need to say anymore?  Really?  It's as if I have a new camera.  I can finally see the picture I'm taking.  I'm sure I'll still cut people's heads off, unless their my height but at least now I can see that I'm cutting their heads off.

We have been letting the dogs off of their leash as much as possible here at the park.  Usually it's on their last walk when very few people are out.  Tanner will come right to me or to Jack, depending on who is walking him. Sydney, on the other hand, will fly like a bat out of hell to the one calling her.  However, the little pooper acts like she's coming straight to you and then when she does get to you she'll run several circles around you and then run back and jump on Tanner, nip at the poor ole guy, jump on him and take off again. It is cute to see her so excited to be off her leash but poor Tanner just stands there and looks up at me as if to say, "Now just what did I do to that little winch to make her do that to me? If I had any good teeth I'd take a bite out of her butt."   Since she is really Jack's baby (he can't leave a room without her right on his heels) I know that he is extremely careful when he lets her off her leash but it still makes me nervous. She moves so fast neither one of us could catch her.

So, here are Jack's pictures of just a tiny portion of The Villages.
