After Point Park we decided to check out the Inclined Railway which was built in 1895 and is the steepest railway in the world. It descends and climbs at a grade of 72.7% and there are two cars that pass each other in the middle of the ride and use the common middle rail for the rest of the ride. It's been recognized as a remarkable engineering effort and has been used by over 40 million passengers since it was built.
After the train ride we left Lookout Mountain and went downtown to find one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world. At one time I believe it was the longest but in 2009 Poughkeepsie, NY opened the Poughkeepsie Highland Railroad bridge over the Hudson river which at 1.25 miles is much longer than the Walnut St.bridge in Chattanooga which is only 2,736 feet. We walked across the bridge and had planned on spending more time around the river area which has shops and restaurants but it started raining so we went back across the bridge to the truck in the rain.
We feel as if we have only scratched the surface of things we would like to do in Chattanooga so we are looking at what else we want to do and will then try to extend our reservations at the rv park we are staying in. Downtown over the weekend seems like a good time.
Here are some pictures since our last post.
These are of Point Park where the civil war Battle Above the Clouds took place.

These were taken on the inclined railway that we rode down and back up Lookout Mountain
These next few were taken at the Walnut St. pedestrian bridge and of the Tennessee river.
