Seeing the sights around Amarillo, Texas

This morning we had some work to do around the motorhome to get things cleaned up.  I washed the front windshield yesterday after our arrival to the Fort Amarillo RV Resort using a long pole with a scrubber and a squeegee but left some streaks.  They weren't too obvious last evening but this morning with the sunshine it looked pretty bad so I got out the ladder, Windex, and paper towels and cleaned it good.  After our house cleaning duties were done we made reservations at our next five destinations so my brother would know when we planned to be in Salt Lake City.  As of today we plan on arriving at the Mountain Shadows RV Park in Draper, Utah on August 7th.  Believe it or not the hardest time we had getting a park reservation was Flagstaff, Az.  We got into parks by the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, and Bryce Canyon National Park but couldn't get into Flagstaff so we had to go past Flagstaff to Williams, Az.  This may be a blessing in disguise since they have a train that stops at the Railside RV Park in the morning that takes you to the Grand Canyon and brings you back at 5:30 in the evening.  They also offer dog sitting at no additional charge (they will come to the motorhome and take them for a walk).  After completing the reservations which took at least an extra hour we got cleaned up and took off to see some sights around Amarillo.

I don't know about you but I have heard about this Cadillac Ranch on route 66 for many years.  We thought since we are only a few miles from it we would check it out.  I'm glad we didn't have to drive far to see it or I would have been disappointed.  Unless your really into 10 old Cadillac's being buried part way up to their front end it wouldn't have been worth going too much out of your way to see it.

After the ranch we took off for Palo Duro Canyon.  If you haven't heard of it before (we hadn't) it is the Texas version of the Grand Canyon.  It was very interesting and worth every bit of the 30 mile drive to get to it.

By this time it is around 6:00 pm and since we ate out last night our plans were to eat at home but our plans changed while we were visiting the historic route 66 district of Amarillo.  We originally were stopping to have a refreshment but after hearing how good the food was we decided to have dinner while we were there.  It was very good and there was plenty of memorabilia on the walls to keep you interested while you were waiting for your food.

Here are today's pictures.

I left my beard trimmer at home so I thought what the heck I'll part it down the middle.  Janet said she would not be seen with me looking like this.

Here is the famous Cadillac Ranch.  Three tourist buses just left as we were pulling up.

Palo Duro Canyon about thirty miles south of Amarillo.

It was about 10 degrees warmer on the canyon floor than it was on top.

We are going to hang around the rv tomorrow so I will probably not be posting anything.
