Chillicothe,Ohio June 29,2011

Hello Everyone,

We arrived in Chillicothe, Ohio on Wednesday after about a four and one half hour drive.  We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Sun Valley RV park outside of Pleasant Valley, Ohio as to how nice it was and how nice Norma the owner is.I think we found a place to stay going forward anytime we return to the Chillicothe area.  On Thursday I played with my new toy with a couple of the neighbor guys for an hour or so.  I got a portable satellite dish in the event (like the site we are currently on) we have a site with a tree in the way of the roof top satellite dish.  Getting the satellite dish "dialed in" required three grown men about one hour but we are now good to go with hundreds of channels. On Thursday June 30th we did a bike ride on the rails to trails bike path to Chillicothe and stopped in to see Janet's aunt Marilyn after stopping at the Paint Street Grill and Patio where we met the owner Keith Jones and the bartender Robin.  After a couple of beers (one of which was on Keith) and a great breaded tenderloin sandwich for me it was off on the bikes again to see Aunt Marilyn.

If you are wondering why we are visiting Chillicothe it is simply  because I was born and raised here. I still have two aunts here, Marilyn and Betty, several cousins, one of whom I'm very close to, Steve.  The above mentioned holds the key to my childhood memories as every holiday was spent with relatives and most everyday of my young life was spent hanging out with Jan.  I have many wonderful memories of my childhood and of the many times Jan and I bordered  on doing things we weren't supposed to be doing but always staying just this side of the "parental allowable" line.  Of all silly things to remember most is this; we grew up in the era of party lines, old fashioned black phones with the heavy dial. If the person who shared your party line happened to be on the phone when you wanted to use the phone, well, it was either tough crap, if the person was talking to her boyfriend, (as was our case) or a threat from my mom to walk to the caller's  house down the street and "speak" to her parents about the party line user's rudeness. Anyhow, having been used to the party line, heavy black phone we were thrilled when a public push button phone was placed on the main street of our little town.  One day Jan and I made the journey up town, on foot to see this "new" futuristic phone.  We pushed button after button.  However, since we had no one to call or the 10cents to use to call even if we did know anyone to call, we soon lost interest and headed home.  I could go on and on about childhood memories,  as I'm sure most of you could,  but I won't.  But Chillicothe is my hometown and I love coming back for a visit.

This is the Mead smoke stack that was built in the 60's.  The intent was to divert the "stinky" smoke from the paper mill to some other poor souls down wind.  We thought the push phone was a big deal.   People would stand outside their homes to watch the smokestack being  built. Didn't take a whole lot to entertain us.

AND it starts again.  Could my butt get any bigger.....oh wait a minute, if it does I'm sure you'll all see it.  I give up!!
