Spur of the moment visit to Washington D.C. with Ellie

Due to our son Gabe's prodding we decided to take a one day trip from Lancaster to Washington, D.C.on Thursday with Ellie, our niece, to see what we could in a short amount of time.  We got to the DC Visitors Center before eleven and bought tickets to one of the trolley bus tour companys and off we went.  We saw so many buildings and sights but didn't really keep track of everything very well.  You could easily spend  a week or two and still miss alot this city has to offer.  We were going to do what we could in 5-6 hours in 95 degree heat with a six year old but understood it wouldn't be much. Below are some pictures of our whirl wind tour of the city.  We would like to come back when we had days not hours.

No more long hair.  Got it chopped off due to the heat.

The reflecting pool is receiving a little work.

Yea, that's the job I want.  Dress up in a cow suit and walk around in almost 100 degree weather.

This picture depicts what we did most of the day.  Uncle Jack and Aunt Janet were a little over protective and wanted to keep a hand on Ellie almost every second.  Some times she would have preferred we kept our hands to ourselves.

yeap that's the Whitehouse.  Could have gotten closer if we would have stuck around to do a different bus tour but we were all ready.  We saw the Whitehouse much closer than this but were not able to get a picture in time.

Just a little traffic leaving the big city.
