Trips to Portland and Bath Maine from our new rv park In Standish

Hi all,

Since Janet is working on the blog from yesterday describing our move from Salisbury Mass. to Standish, Maine I thought I would help out by posting about our new campground and our trip to Portland and Bath, Maine today.

If you like seafood Maine is the place to be.  We had breakfast at Becky's diner in Portland Maine this morning and I noticed on the menu that you could get a lobster omelet.  Portland is about 25 miles from where we are staying in Standish, Maine which is a little hole in the wall city with a nice rv park.  After breakfast we rode around Portland in the truck and found it to be a port city centered more on industry and somewhat less on tourism.  It didn't have the atmosphere that the smaller ocean side cities we have visited lately have had.  After driving around Portland we went to Cape Elizabeth to see the Portland Head Light which is the most photographed lighthouse in all of Maine.

After the lighthouse tour we then drove about one hour north on highway 1 along the Atlantic coast to the town of Bath.  At Bath we walked around town and went into a few shops then found a local bar to have some refreshments.  If you are a Notre Dame fan or are Irish you would love this bar. Here is a quirky thing about Maine bars kind of like the one Hulio posted about bringing babies into the bars in Georgia.  In Maine our bartender, who happened to be a very nice young lady, was not old enough to drink.  In Maine you don't have to be 21 to be a bar tender even though you have to be 21 to drink in a bar.  Later this evening we went to Windham to get Huli a hair cut and then went back to the campground to fix supper.  Hope you like the pictures.

This is one of the prettiest camping spots we have ever had.  Getting to the spot was a different story.

The next three pictures is of lake Sebago which is very near our camp site.  The lake is the second largest in the state of Maine and is the deepest lake with the deepest point being 316 feet and an average depth of 101 feet.  The lake is over 12 miles long.

This was taken at the port in Portland.  Look like rotted telephone poles in the water.

We took the short cut from the parking lot to the fort and then to the lighthouse. Should have brought my machete.

I have to get back on that elliptical.  Don't forget the camera adds 10 lbs.  If your wearing a red shirt it adds another10.  If your wearing a red shirt and white shorts it's another 5 lbs.at least.

These next few pictures are of Bath, Maine.
