The Rocky Stairs in Philly

Everyone knows the Rocky stairs; the Museum of Art stairs he ran up and down and up and down during his training for a big fight.  I think every person who saw that show back in the 80's wanted to run those stairs.  Something so liberating came from that scene of Rocky on those stairs.  When he did his "Rocky dance" at the top of the stairs everyone knew he could whip some serious butt.

Okay.  So finally we make it to Philly.  Beautiful city.  Busy, crazy traffic but beautiful. I know Jack has already shared the beauty of the city through his pictures so I won't go in to any of that.  I do recall him talking about me standing behind him preparing myself for the Rocky run up the stairs.  What I was really doing behind his back was praying.  I did not make the Rocky run.  I did not even make the Rocky trot.  It was more like a slow crawl to hell.  It's funny how I can work out at the gym for 1, sometimes 2 hours and I love it and never feel better than after a workout. But put me in front of seemingly endless stairs and expect me to walk them in 90 degree heat and mentally I'm thinking about how it's going to feel to have a heart attack.  I did it, though, without too many aches or pains and was even able to breathe once I hit the top.  I'm happy I did it as it was beautiful looking out over the city.

Washington D.C. was a wonderful trip as well.  As Jack told you we did take our niece Ellie with us.  We've most likely scarred her for life.  I felt as if Jack or I had to have a hand on her at all times so I was a little stressed as I am sure she was as well.  But all in all it was a place I've always wanted to see.  My favorite part was the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  I felt tears welling up so I moved to the side of the crowd so as not to be noticed.  But what I noticed was that many people watching the ceremony were wiping tears.  Our country has it's faults but we do get some things right.  And this 24/7, 365 day ceremony is one of them.

Last night we stayed in upstate New York.  Just a pass through night but we did enjoy a wonderful swim in a heated pool and some good company at a local bar and grill.  Tonight we are in Salisbury, Mass.  It's a resort town with a beautiful beach on the Atlantic so we plan on hitting the bike trail tomorrow and making the 1/2 mile trip to the ocean for some fun.

I do believe Jack has some pictures to share.  Until later.
