Day 4 Our Final Day at Key West

Today we got up a little later since we felt as if we did most things we wanted to do while here at Key West.  We rode our bikes to the north side of the island where we stopped at the Hog Breath Saloon for lunch.  We had the blackened chili hot dogs and I ate mine and most of Huli's.  We then took the conch train narrated tour around the island.  The tour lasted about an hour and one half and while we had already seen most of the sites on our bicycles it was interesting to hear the history about some of the houses and descriptions about the plants and trees that we have been admiring for the last four days. For example, the roosters running around the island are a hold over from when cock fighting used to take place by the Cubans that lived on Key West.  The roosters are known as Key West eagles today and you see them everywhere.  After the conch train ride we rode our bikes to a couple of little shops and then stopped over at the most run down  bar on the island which was down by the wharf where we checked out the boats before stopping in for refreshments.

This is where we had lunch the Hog Breath Saloon.  I heard a lot about the blackened chili dogs and I wanted to try one.

The next few pictures are of trees and houses we saw while on the conch train ride.  From these pictures you get a flavor for the flowers and trees and the houses on the island.

These next pictures are after our train ride and trip to a couple of shops where we bought our usual shot glasses and refrigerator magnets.

These next few pictures are where we ended our day at.  It was the worst looking nastiest bar on the island but the music coming from the bar was great.  We chained the bikes up to a street sign and in we went.

This is my new best friend but I don't know what his name is.

This is John from Germany.  I had him eating raw oysters a few minutes from taking this picture.

This is Angie and Ryan from Philadelphia.  Angie, John and I are getting ready to eat some raw oysters

John doesn't want to just slurp the whole thing down so he is picking the slimy thing off of the shell.

Most bars and restaurants allow well behaved dogs.

This is Huli wondering how the hell we rode our bikes back across the island without getting lost or run over

Here is my little salamander catcher at work on our last morning
