Trip to the Homosassa Wildlife State Park & The Monkey Bar

Today we drove about 20 miles to Homosassa Springs home of the state Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park.  This park is home to six Manatees among many other animals found throughout the state of Florida and one animal that is not found in Florida.

After visiting the wildlife park we went out to find a place to get something to eat and wound up at the Monkey bar.  There are pictures down below of this establishment.  It gets the name from the island outside the back door where Monkeys have lived for several years.

I  played golf again yesterday at a new course I have never played before.  Shot an 89 after taking an 8 and a 7 on two of the par fours.   I have got to eliminate these blowup holes.  One problem of having many things to do around the RV park is that we haven't explored around the area as much as we would have liked to but are going to start doing more of that over the next few weeks.

For those who have said they want to see more pictures here you go.  We will try to post more as we travel around the area to see more of the sights.   This Saturday we are meeting my sisters Carol and Lori in Gainsville for lunch.  Gainsville is roughly half way between us and Jacksonville where they live.  We are looking forward to it.  Should be fun.

Bye for now,

Jack

This was taken from an under water room in the spring.

My favorite but has no animals

This is one of the manatees

Big alligator but he is hard to see.

This is Lucifero the hippo.  He is the only non Florida animal in the park.  The park originally was started as a city park and then was taken over by Citrus County and later by the state of Florida as a state park.  The state only wanted local Florida animals in the park but no one would take Lucifer due to his hefty food bill so he was made an honorary citizen of Florida and was allowed to live out his days in the park.  A couple of weeks ago he turned 52 and they had a big celebration for him and a lot of people showed up because he apparently is very popular around here.

Would not want to experience this because it appears Lucifer gets plenty of roughage.

Blue crab

This is the Monkey Bar we went to after the Wildlife Park.  They call it the Monkey bar because they have about six monkeys on an island just outside the back door of the bar.  They have been there for years.

That's the island where the monkeys are.  I am not sure if you can see them unless you increase the size of the picture by clicking on it.

Nice bar with three antique cash registers sitting on top of it by the ceiling.

This is the office at the RV park we are staying at.
