March 22, 2011 Downtown Savannah, Georgia on our bikes

Hi y'all.  as Paula Deen would say.  We spent the day in downtown Savannah and saw a lot of the city.   We have been in Savannah a couple of other times before and enjoyed ourselves then so we were looking forward to our visit this year.  We started our tour with a 90 minute bus ride that was narrated by a very knowledgeable lady (Sharon) who described all of the historic places we were seeing.   After the bus ride we spent some time in the Visitor's Center and then we took off on our bikes.  We biked for several hours but only logged about 10 miles at the end of the day.  While Savannah is a very beautiful city I wouldn't classify it as one of the most bike friendly cities we have ever been in.

Savannah has 22 squares that used to be 24 but two were used as building locations for city buildings etc.  The remaining 22 squares are awesome and make Savannah one of the most beautiful cities we have ever seen.  Especially at this time of the year.  As we have said before I am not sure pictures do the scenery justice because some of the plants and flowers at this time of the year coupled with the fountains, houses, and other buildings were simply beautiful.

Sorry for the picture overload and the potential duplicate or two.

This used to be an old cotton warehouse

One part of the Pirate House restaurant contains the oldest building in Savannah also where Janet and I will eat Saturday night to celebrate our 40th anniversary.

This is Paula Deens restaurant "Lady and Sons".  Based on what we are hearing from others she needs to spend more time in the restaurant and less time selling pots and pans, books, etc.  Heard many people say the food was not that good.  We also read several reviews on the internet say the same thing.

When the feather in the Forest Gump movie was released into the air this is the church steeple you saw.

Many years ago someone removed head stones and mixed them up so they placed them against the wall
