March 2nd Biked to the town of Atlantic Beach

We took our first bike trip here in Jacksonville, Florida.  We rode about 25 miles to Atlantic Beach, Florida.  About 5 or so years ago we were here in Jacksonville visiting Carol and Lori and our flight out was canceled.  We spent the night at Atlantic Beach and enjoyed the evening at several different restaurants and pubs.  One of those pubs, Pete's Bar, a hole in the wall little pub, is the oldest bar in Jacksonville. It was crowded that night and today as well when we revisited Pete's.  Met two really cool young people from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  Picture below.  She is a bartender and he a truck driver.  Their flight out was this evening and were having a few shots of Jack and Patron as a final hooray.  They even bought us a beer.  We really do meet the nicest people at these little places.  We wound up our very busy day with Carol and Lori and dinner at a Mexican Buffet.  So, now my legs are screaming at me as well as my stomach.

Not sure if you can tell by Jack's pictures but this campground is like a jungle.  By the time we returned to the campground today I was so tired; Jack was a good 1/4 mile ahead of me and he continued ahead so that he could get to the RV and walk the dogs while I got ready for dinner.  Tired, hungry and thirsty I pulled in to the campground, made a turn to go our RV and ended back at the front gate.  I was lost.  For the life of me I could not remember our campsite number.  I thought it was 259.  It wasn't.  I just rode around for a bit until something finally looked familiar.  All they need to add here is a giraffe and some monkeys and they could have a zoo.

The trunk of a large palm tree we passed on a bike ride today.
